LEAF

Towards the end of October, David and I went to the LEAF Festival (Lake Eden Arts Festival) in Black Mountain, NC. It is held on the grounds of what used to be Black Mountain College...a alternative Liberal Arts college of the past. Not only is the scenery beautiful, the buildings unique, but the entertainment was great as well.

Tent City (you could stay onsite if you wanted to)

We saw a bunch of performers starting out with Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus whom I just loved.

The next day we saw the Mad Tea Party...whose lead singer plays the ukelele.

We also saw Kellin Watson http://www.kellinwatson.com and Richie Havens http://www.richiehavens.com/ who had played at Woodstock. Most of the people in the audience were are age or older...that was a lot of fun, though it was really cold!!!! But the highlight of the day, at least for David, were the Wiyos http://www.wiyos.com/, a true "jugband".

On Sunday we got to see Riders in the Sky. There were young kids, old kids and all kids in between. Riders in the Sky http://www.ridersinthesky.com/ are a modern day Sons of the Pioneers http://www.sonsofthepioneers.org/ of whom I (Karin) am a big fan!

All in all we had a great time, even with the rain (some), mud (lots) and cold (at night). We decided to go with the theme of staying in the mountains and stayed in a local KOA. The Porsche looked a little funny in front of the cabin, but we are eclectic people!
